  • High precision across a wide operating temperature range.
  • High reliability and low failure rate.
  • A stable supply structure.

Murata Manufacturing has developed its first HCR/XRCGE_M_F-series automotive crystal resonator offering high precision with a frequency deviation*1 of ±40 ppm across the wide operating temperature range of −40 to 125°C. Mass production has begun.

Increasing automotive electrification and functionality mean systems such as tire pressure monitoring (TPMS)*2, remote keyless entry (RKE)*3 and wireless battery management (wBMS)*4 incorporate many devices using Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE), ZigBee™ and other communications standards. Wireless signals from multiple devices increasingly overlap. Accurate synchronization of transmission timing between device ICs is required to receive the frequencies used by each standard correctly and avoid communication errors. High precision timing components capable of generating stable clock signals*5 are therefore needed.

Existing timing components vary individually in crystal oscillator frequency accuracy. After installation, operating temperatures in automotive equipment can shift frequencies beyond the accuracy required by communications standards. Production consequently requires calibration, writing correction coefficients into wireless control ICs to maintain the specified accuracy range. The time and cost of this process pose challenges.

Smaller automotive devices, denser component placement and high performance ICs have also raised circuit board temperatures, increasing demand for components that combine precision with high temperature capability.

Using proprietary raw quartz crystals and optimized resonator design, Murata developed its first high precision product achieving ±40 ppm across −40 to 125°C. It can eliminate previously essential calibration during automotive device production and contribute to stable operation. Murata will continue developing crystal resonators that meet market demand and support advanced automotive functionality.
